Te Tiriti o Waitangi is about all of us. It sets the foundations for ongoing peace and mutual benefit in Aotearoa. It offers everyone a chance to belong, to work together and to share decision making so that we can look after our people and planet together.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi protects the unique culture of Aotearoa. It protects te taiao, and stands between us and the devastation of our natural world. Te Tiriti o Waitangi in its current form works to uphold the Aotearoa that we love. The Treaty Principles Bill actively works to undermine those protections.

But the promise of Te Tiriti o Waitangi is currently under threat.

This Coalition Government is taking us backwards with a raft of policies that actively harm the relationship between Māori and the Crown, and take us further away from the commitments made in Te Tiriti.

Over the past decades, we have made meaningful progress to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi as a country.

Whether it’s protecting our cultural and natural taonga, ensuring that children are connected to their whānau, revitalising Te Reo Māori, celebrating cultural traditions, creating solutions for health, improving housing and income support and ensuring local decisions reflect the community – Te Tiriti o Waitangi makes a better Aotearoa, with positive outcomes for Māori that lead to positive outcomes for everyone.

Now’s the time to keep our country moving forward for an Aotearoa we can all be proud of.
